Did you know that Kansas City barbeque and the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) both got their start the same year? Considered to be the “father of Kansas City barbecue,” Henry Perry began selling smoked meats to hungry laborers in the Garment District in Downtown Kansas City from an alley stand in 1908. That was the same year that ASAS was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and two years after ADSA was founded.
The Kansas City region has the largest concentration of barbecue restaurants of any place in America—more than a hundred—‘cue fans claim.
Known for its barbecue and jazz as well as combining classic attractions such as a top art museum along with a new emphasis on nightlife in a revitalized city center, Kansas City stands ready to welcome the 2014 t Annual Meeting (JAM) of the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS), the American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) and the Canadian Society of Animal Science (CSAS). As a global forum for professionals, educators, and students, the meeting will attract more than 3,000 of the world’s leading animal and dairy scientists with diverse but common interests in the future of animal science. Mark your calendars now for July 20-24 and make it a date in Kansas City for the 2014 JAM of ASAS, ADSA® and CSAS and enjoy some of that world famous barbeque while you’re there.
